Sept. 4: Selected contract of RHP from Triple-A Louisville; recalled RHP ; optioned RHP to Louisville; returned RHP  to Louisville
Mariot, who made nine appearances (eight starts) with Louisville this year, is in line to make his Reds debut after signing a Minor League deal with the club in June. Legumina begins his fourth stint with the Reds this year, having posted a 6.17 ERA in 10 previous outings, while Kennedy returns to Triple-A after working two innings in Sunday's loss to the Cubs.

Ashcraft exited his start after five-plus innings in Game 1 of Friday’s doubleheader due to pain in his right big toe. He underwent an MRI and was diagnosed with a stress reaction the next day.

Williamson became the fourth member of the Reds’ pitching staff to test positive for COVID-19. He will be out a minimum of seven days. Because of the COVID IL rules, Phillips, the Reds’ No. 4 prospect, was added to the active roster as a substitute player without needing to be added to the 40-man roster. When he debuts, Phillips will be the 12th player from the Reds’ preseason Top 30 Prospects list to play for the big league club.

Sept. 2: OF claimed off waivers by St. Louis; INF clears waivers, outrighted to Triple-A Louisville
Lopez was designated for assignment on Thursday. In 61 games with the Reds this season, he’s slashed .262/.314/.331 with one home run. Siani, a former top prospect, was also designated for assignment on Thursday. He made three appearances for the Reds this month and walked in his lone plate appearance.

India started a running progression at the Reds' complex in Goodyear, Ariz. on Aug. 28. After a week of running, manager David Bell said that India could begin a rehab assignment within a week. He'll need at least three appearances before joining the big league club. (Last updated: Sept. 3)

McLain will be out for at least two to three more weeks before he'll be able to play. After experiencing discomfort in his side over the past couple of series, McLain underwent an MRI that revealed a strain in his right oblique on Aug. 28. (Last updated: Sept. 3)

1B (left shoulder strain)

Votto had experienced weakness in the shoulder on which he underwent surgery in 2022 to repair a torn biceps and a torn rotator cuff. He was placed on the IL on Aug. 24. The original hope was that he could return the first day he was eligible, but as of Sept. 3, Votto is still working on strengthening his shoulder and easing back into hitting. RHP (stress reaction in right big toe)

Ashcraft exited his start after five-plus innings on Sept. 1 due to pain in his right big toe, and was diagnosed with a stress reaction the next day. Before he was placed on the IL, he was the only member of the Reds’ April rotation still on the active roster. INF (left oblique strain)

Newman has resumed hitting in the cage after he suffered an oblique strain during a pregame double-play drill on Aug. 18. He was placed on the IL the next day (retroactive to Aug. 16) and is not expected to miss much time. Newman has played all four infield positions this season. Young felt left hamstring tightness in his last couple of appearances, including on Aug. 24, when he took the loss at Arizona after walking the leadoff batter and giving up a two-run homer to Corbin Carroll. Casali, who has been on the injured list since July 24 after fouling a ball off his foot in the batting cage a day earlier, had his rehab assignment with Triple-A Louisville halted after six games on Aug. 24 because of an illness. 60-day IL

LHP (left tibia stress reaction)

Reds general manager Nick Krall confirmed on Aug. 31 that Lodolo's season is over after the left-hander received a second opinion in New York about his injury the previous day. Manager David Bell said that Lodolo would not have surgery or return to wearing a boot. The expectation is that rest will let his leg heal, and could have him able to return for next season. Out since mid-May, Lodolo endured a setback on Aug. 20 during his rehab start with Triple-A Louisville. An MRI exam revealed a reccurrence of a stress reaction in his left tibia. RHP (right shoulder)

Dunn received a second opinion on his shoulder after experiencing a setback in his recovery, and learned that he would need season-ending surgery to repair the anterior capsule. He made three appearances for Triple-A Louisville before his rehab assignment was halted on Aug. 24.

The right-hander, who has dealt with shoulder issues in each of the past two seasons, has been out since Spring Training because of soreness in the subscapularis muscle in his right rotator cuff. (Last updated: Sept. 1)

RHP (Tommy John surgery)

Gutierrez was returned from his rehab assignment with Triple-A Louisville due to triceps pain. He is expected to be evaluated by multiple doctors, including a Reds team doctor, to figure out the issue and determine next steps. In his last appearance on Aug. 12, Gutierrez threw 29 pitches (15 strikes) and averaged 90.3 mph on his fastball, down from his 2022 season average of 92.8.

In his previous two appearances with Louisville, Gutierrez was hovering around 91-93 mph. Although he's a starting pitcher, Gutierrez was being prepped for a bullpen role this season, and he could return to starting in 2024. (Last updated: Aug. 18)

Sanmartin underwent Tommy John surgery to repair the ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow on July 7, it was revealed on July 28. He originally was diagnosed with a stress reaction after he left a relief outing on May 7. (Last updated: July 28)

Overton underwent season-ending Tommy John surgery on May 23. His elbow and arm were not responding well to certain throwing distances during long tossing at Goodyear, Ariz., which is when the Reds discovered the issue. The right-hander has been on the IL since April 15. (Last updated: May 25)
